Research Express@NCKU - Articles Digest (Volume 18 Issue 4) Volume 18 Issue 4 - May 6, 2011 Developing the Ergonomics and Interaction Design Platform for Creative Product Manipulation Fong-Gong Wu*, Chien-Hsu Chen Department of Industrial Design fonggong@mail.ncku.edu.tw NCKU Landmark Project《A0166》 The study focused on human-centric orientation, and tried to explore the behavior and emotion from users' perspective, and then combined with technology to integrate and create the innovative applications. With the development and maturity of network technology, the ways of web map should be changed. We focused on the user interface in the mouse and touch screen of the web map to study better functions and interfaces of the web map and to facilitate its usage. The results provide useful reference for new interface design that suits for touch screen operation. For elderly cell phone user, since human receive 85% of environment stimuli through visual ability, it would be very helpful for elders if we improve the recognition degree of cell phone icons. We brought up a rule for interface and icon design through user testing. With the rule, the cell phone would be more suitable and closer to human needs, especially for a super-aging society. (Fig.1) Fig.1 The icon design and color design of the cell phone Except for the human-machine interaction issue, to improve efficiency and reduce error is also the key issue in human factor research. It was hard to use large-surface thumb to press the relatively small keys. To solve this problem, we considered the back-side operation and looked forward to developing other operating ways. We used the “non-vision corner keys operating format” that improves the moving distance of keyboard-operating fingers according to the Fitts' law, as well as utilizing the highly sensitive tactile, location, and intuitive reflex senses of fingers to find out the suitable keys arrangement for the mobile phone. For children, learning drawing has huge impact on cognitive and creative development. However, research on digital drawing system is little and is not suitable for learning drawing in digital times. Based on the intuitive operation, we tried to build up a Gesture Movement Drawing system for 4-7 years-old children. In this research, the combination of the vision sign rule and sign was applied to construct the gesture movement image. Finally, carrying on operation of drawing system by gesture movement and visual interface feedback and using technique of experiment confirm the system performance criteria. In addition, considering the needs and cognitive ability of children, we applied their tactile and visual abilities to learning in this period. The value of traditional drawing will be extended in the digital drawing. (Fig.2) Fig.2 Intuitive operation correspond to the different TUI With the population of 3D TV, there would be more user interface problems found in the future. We concluded the present studies and found the participants presented weaker performances which associated with the depth direction (z-axis). Based on the possible factors, we tried to design an augment reality (AR) 3D to test whether the participants' performance could be improved by this design. Furthermore, as computers become pervasive in our daily life, researchers brought up the idea that technologies and computers should offer friendly interfaces for their users, such as to bridge the gap between people and digital information. Therefore, we build up a Multi-Touch platform of 3D searching for supporting the new kind of interface research. After that, we can observe the user behavior during their manipulation. Multi-Touch has the potential to be applied in museums and exhibits because it can support fluid interactions, and allow multiple users to interact with exhibition's contents through rich and various gestures simply created by their fingers or hands on the screen simultaneously (Fig. 3). The ISI web of knowledge also showed PI's superiority in SCI/SSCI/A&HCI article results in 2009.
